You’ve learned about SEO as a whole, you’ve gone through the stages of improving it, but to be as successful as you can in this domain, you have to study every single detail on its own. So without further ado, let’s continue with our journey and talk about a little friend of ours that we like to call keywords.
Before we jump into the bigger things, let’s understand the concept of keywords as a whole first.
Let’s say you want to search for a good shaving cream to buy, the typical thing to do is to search for it on Google right? So you open up Google and you type something related to the thing you’re searching for, which in this case is shaving cream. You’d write something like (best shaving cream, affordable shaving cream, shaving cream for men, etc…) this is exactly what keywords are.
They are the things that will make it easier for Google and its users to find you. That’s why having a good amount of ammunition for keywords is the first and most important step in your SEO strategy. It’s definitely worth the time and investment because it’s considered one of the best SEO on-page and off-page tools. But don’t let that double-edged sword fool you. If it was misused, it would do the opposite effect and be a curse instead of a blessing. But how much of them do I really need? When is it considered too much?
The world of SEO is a hugely competitive place to be. But to make the best of it, you have to be smart. Major companies can get away with only one keyword that their competitors would have to always use because their company is so huge there’s no running away from using words that links to them. But on the other hand, for small businesses to make it in the industry, they have to keep in mind that they should use SEO strategies that are made especially for a small business.

Thus, you’d have a better idea of what direction to take and how to aim for the perfect keywords list that interests your readers and works like a magnet to bring more of them to you.
But here’s a word of advice you don’t hear that much often. Using the most popular keywords isn’t always as useful as it seems. To be overly competitive with others is a harmful thing to your business. So instead of focusing only on the highest volume keywords, try to use diversity and always keep your keywords varied, smart, well placed, and updated. Another unpopular yet very useful thing to do is to keep updating the keywords in your old content too.
This way, your content will always be out there as a whole, not just the new stuff. And don’t forget to keep the keyword analysis going, it’s your best SEO friend. But what’s the use of a great keyword if it was misplaced? That’s our next stop.
