Well, well, well. If it isn’t my favorite SEO student. Welcome back! Last time we left our SEO journey at learning about keywords right? Well, today’s going to be all about on-page SEO. We’ve mentioned it several times before and talked about it briefly but do you really know what on-page SEO is? Let’s talk about that.
So it’s basically the process of website crafting to help Google understand your website which will improve your ranking and attract more organic traffic. It also includes optimizations to your visible content and the HTML source code. And most importantly, you have to keep in mind that in order to be Google’s SERP best friend, you have to always provide the most accurate answers to people’s questions. The more questions you answer, the higher your rank and the more organic traffic you’ll gain. Keep them crawlers coming!
As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, Google always seeks relevance. To find the best result for a certain search, Google goes through keywords and other factors to get to the best list possible for the SERP. And here comes the famous mistake that people always make. They focus on just one general keyword, or they stuff their content with keywords and completely forget about the quality and reliability of the content.
And that’s the thing that you must keep in mind, Google doesn’t care about the number of keywords or about keywords on their own, both the quality of your content and the variety of keywords go hand in hand together to build you the perfect ranks and traffic.
So when a person searches for something and Google’s crawlers find the most accurate answer on your website because you used the right SEO techniques and strategies, Google would help your website appear among the top search results, and then it happens again and again, Google will eventually put you on his top favorite sites and will always recommend you to everyone because now these little crawlers trust you and your optimized content
Let’s see what’s on my on-page SEO checklist, shall we?
This is the first on-page SEO optimization step. Plenty of advice goes into this one so let’s count through them all. First of all, you need to use a bit of an old trick that still has a golden result. This golden trick is all about using the main keyword within the first 100 words of your article or blog. I know it sounds old school but believe me it works like a charm.
Why do you ask? It’s because Google puts more search into the terms that show up early in the content. Do you think these crawlers have all day to go through the entire blog? Of course not! And in the end, it all makes sense cause if you were writing a blog about dog breeds, for example, you won’t mention the keywords “dog breeds” halfway through the blog right? It only makes sense.
Onto the next point which may be a little controversial but you should use the H1 heading and H2 subheading. Many people say that this won’t do you any good but on the contrary, Google themselves mentioned that using H1 for your titles helps the engine understand the structure of the website better. And if it didn’t do you any good, no harm will be done either. So why not? And for the love of SEO, please use your main keyword more often.
Just imagine if your blog is about dog breeds again and you only mention that keyword once, how can Google be so sure that this is what your blog is about right? I mean they deny that this technique actually works, but what do they know? Giving it a shot won’t hurt you. So in short, repeating the same main keyword is just a way to make things clear to the little crawlers as if you’re saying “hey guys, my blog is about this okay?”.
What are meta titles and descriptions? And how do I write them? We’ve talked about this before in the previous blogs but let’s have a small summary about them just to make sure you’re on the right track. Amid these SEO optimization tips that your friendly SEO consultant is giving you, this one should get some extra attention. Metadata is the summary that will give the searcher a hint about what he’s going to find on your website and his click is highly influenced by this exact summary. You have to give him something to click for.
Your job is to create the best meta description and meta title possible to get all the clicks in the world. To add more benefit to it, add an ultimate keyword or keyword phrase so you’ll gain both the traffic and the appearance.
But careful, every word counts. There’s a certain number of characters for the meta title and the meta description. If you cross it, you won’t be doing yourself a favor. So make sure to stick to 60 characters for the meta title, and 160 characters for the meta description. Here are a few extra useful tips to follow:
And finally, in a world that’s getting more and more competitive every day, to succeed you have to always bring something new to the table.
Speaking about your content of course. If you think about it, there’s no topic on planet earth that hasn’t been discussed yet. There’s hardly anything new anymore because there are always people who are tracking the news of the word daily. So how can you be fresh if there's nothing fresh anymore? Simply find that one angle that no one had covered before about a certain topic and just embrace it. You can even create new content out of the old ones if you’re smart enough. Just keep it as far away from the box as possible.
And pay enough attention to the aesthetic part of the process. I mean yeah high-quality content is always amazing but there are people out there who get lured by the aesthetic beauty, not just the reliable content. In the end, you have to give everyone what they’re asking for so try to give this side a go. Add more details, get yourself some really strong authors and writers, keep your material updated, engage people with what you’re doing cause lord knows how strong interactive content can be, it all makes sense because it’s about the people and for the people so make them feel like they’re part of what you’re doing every day.
In short, keep your audience engaged and amped up.
